Magic Who Student Sample
Magic Who was used in class to create a riddle based on the character traits of one of the characters in a novel. The name of one of the characters was given to the students and they brainstormed different characteristics and attributes of the person. Then the The Magic Who Frame was given to the students. The strategy was modeled and an example was completed as a whole class activity. The students were then given time to develop their own Magic Who with their assigned character. They were quickly able to supply the information to fill the blanks. After that, they composed and asked their riddles. The Magic Who frame the students were given was the one in the Write Track notebook by Dr. Gess, used in Writing, Thinking, and Creating Across the Curriculum RTC class. Students stated that they were able identify important characteristics and more concisely describe a character after using the strategy. They also reported a high level of enjoyment using the strategy and stated they would like to use it again.
