Q.A.D. (Questions-Answer-Detail)
Q.A.D. is a strategy to use adds a focus on questions for an audience, answers and providing appropriate and varied detail. Key questions to ask such as Why, How, When, What, Where can help assure that essays and writing assignments have the appropriate balance in writing as well. It can be used to build an outline or when editing. The Questions are planned by the writer and key to development of each paragraph. The Answers are brief responses to the questions. The Details support each question and add elaboration to the answer.
How to create a QAD: Students can set a frame with 3 columns. One column heading is for the questions. The second solumn is for the answer. The third column is for details that elaborate on the answer. A good idea for the detial section would be to apply the Find the Facts strategy. After the QAD is sompleted each question becomes the topic of a body paragraph. The Answer forms the focus and the Detals are the support for the paragraphs.
