One Word to Many
This strategy may prove especially beneficial for those students who are reluctant writers. The student who whines, "I don't know what to write." With this strategy all they need to come up with is a word. The word is used to expand thinking and develop details, explanations, and questions. Other strategies can be used in conjuction with this technique such as the A-Z list.
How To: Have the students generate a list of words for topics or on a specific topic. Students select "one" word as the focus of their paper. The student then makes three statements or questions about the word. These three questions become the body of the paper or the meat of the paragraph. The word becomes the topic of the writing piece.
